Buffer's Team Grades the Company Every Month
A majority of U.S. employees aren’t engaged at work, which affects everything from productivity to retention. Social Media Management company, Buffer, is a fully remote team, so they need to be extra inventive in how they measure their team's engagement. Co-founders Leo Wid and Joel Gascoigne were inspired by Hubspot to create their employee satisfaction survey which asks team members to rate the company. Every month, they ask their team to anonymously fill out a questionnaire with questions such as:
- "How likely are you to recommend Buffer as a place to work?"
- "How much personal growth and learning are you experiencing in your current role?"
As a result, every month they get an idea of what’s gotten better, and where there’s room for improvement.
Takeaway: The idea of your employees “grading” your company may initially be unsettling, but Buffer demonstrates that this is an important starting point to make work more engaging and satisfying for your team. Just as crucial is making changes based on survey results—if employees are constantly polled but don't see any improvement, they'll quickly become disillusioned.
